New JICHAI 280 Marine Engine Debuts, Boosting Domestic Maritime Innovation

At the China International Maritime Exhibition held on December 2, 2025, JICHAI officially launched the 280 series marine engine, injecting new momentum for domestic production in the high-end maritime equipment manufacturing sector. Zhang Zeya, General Manager and Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of JICHAI, attended the launch event and delivered a speech.

The 280 series marine engine integrates internationally advanced technologies and is an LNG single-fuel main engine product developed specifically with a focus on carbon reduction. It fully meets the demands for efficient ship operation in complex navigation environments. Designed primarily for applications such as ocean-going fishing vessels, coastal transport ships, and river-sea direct transport vessels in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River, the series carries forward the technical heritage of JICHAI’s “gold medal products in high-power engines.” Equipped with the latest gas control system, it delivers a cylinder power of 460 kW for diesel engines and 367 kW for natural gas engines. The engine boasts core advantages such as low energy consumption, strong power, large reserve power, and high reliability. It can also be paired with environmental technologies like high-pressure SCR denitration and EGR exhaust gas recirculation to meet the latest emission requirements of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). Among the series, the representative model, the 6280ZLCT engine, achieves a maximum power of 3,000 horsepower, providing a robust LNG power option for river-sea direct vessels.

During the launch event, the Qingdao Branch of the China Classification Society (CCS) presented the type approval certificate for the 280 series marine engine on site. This marks the official acquisition of the “market access permit” for this new domestically produced marine power equipment, paving its way into the broad maritime field.

At the same time, leveraging its core power equipment and based on the “Two Engines, Two New Initiatives” industrial layout, Jichai Power also introduced a series of supporting products such as energy storage and intelligent equipment. These offerings provide green and intelligent solutions for areas including efficient matching of ship energy systems, ship shore power supply, and energy refueling. JICHAI is actively building a comprehensive “Power + Service” and “Product + Ecosystem” support system, covering the entire chain from equipment procurement to operational support. This initiative aims to facilitate the low-carbon transformation of the shipping industry and contribute to the achievement of the national “Dual Carbon” goals (carbon peaking and carbon neutrality).
